Community Support Associate (CSA) Training
Event description
Community Support Associate certification by the Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health
A Community Support Associate (CSA) provides Comprehensive Community Support Services, CPT code (H2015), to individuals that have a Mental Health disorder or a Co-Occurring disorder. Co-Occurring Disorder means the primary diagnosis of a mental health disorder and one or more of the following:
- A substance use disorder,
- Intellectual disability, or
- Physical health disorder or condition
For those receiving services from a CSA, the mental health diagnosis would be the primary reason the recipient is seeking treatment. A CSA may not provide services to individuals that have a Substance Use Disorder as the primary reason for seeking treatment. Refer to 908 KAR 2:250, Community support associate; eligibility criteria and training, for specific eligibility and training requirements.
Note:Â A Community Support Associate may work for a Behavioral Health Multi-Specialty Group and a Behavioral Health Service Organization (BHSO) Tier I. Reimbursement is not available for services provided by a CSA within a BHSO Tier II, BHSO Tier III, or via an individual practitioner.
This 10-hour training satisfies the curriculum requirements to become a Community Support Associate, by the Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health, covering principles of recovery, promoting resilience, psychiatric rehabilitation, and effective communication. Provides an overview of mental health and co-occurring diagnoses, as well as appropriate crisis intervention skills.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and one year of full-time employment experience working with individuals that receive treatment for mental health.
