Community Tree Planting for Koala Habitat

'Zonta Says Now' is the motto for gender equal climate action. Armidale Zonta Club is committed to this action and has teamed with Armidale Tree Group on International Womens day to hold a community tree planting and this will provide Koala habitat in the New England Region near Armidale.

Around the world, millions of people have already lost their homes and livelihoods due to extreme weather events caused by climate change. Most of them are women.When extreme heat, drought, fires, storms, floods, and sea-level rise disrupt lives and livelihoods, women are less likely than men to recover. Why? Because systemic gender inequality has led to women having fewer resources and choices than men.With each climate-related disaster, women fall farther behind men. Women are less able to rebuild their lives due to the widening gender gaps in education, pay, legal rights, leadership, and societal responses to climate change.

Armidale Tree Group Inc is a not for profit community group dedicated to 'Growing Sustainable Landscapes'. We are holding a community tree planting of 2,000 trees for Koala habitat on Boorlolong Road as part of our ongoing commitment to this cause. We have been growing and planting trees for over 40 years in the New England region and rely on members and volunteers to help us achieve our goals. We need helpers to come and plant some trees with our trained staff. You can meet other people and make a difference. Families most welcome. 

We will start at 9am and finish around 1pm. Morning tea and al light lunch will be provided for all helpers provided by Armidale Zonta Club. Bring a hat, a water bottle, gloves and wear sturdy shoes. Mirranook is around 8.4 km from the town boundary on Booroolong Rd on your left where there are two mailboxes. Follow the signs to the planting site. You will be asked to register on site and provided with instructions on correct planting techniques and safety issues.
