Join us for a FREE community celebration welcoming our seasonal workers from the Pacific Islands!
Date: Saturday 6th December
Time: 5pm to 9pm
Location: Huon Valley PCYC carpark
Alcohol-free event
Activities include:
Welcome to Country by South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation (SETAC)
'Ava ceremony by the Samoan Community
Welcome by the Huon Valley Mayor
Traditional Samoan umu by Samoan Community
Traditional Australian BBQ by Huonville Lions Club
Performance by Pacific Islander communities and local choirs (Little Boat Choir and Cygnet Song Circle)
If you would like to contribute, please bring a dessert
Community members are welcome to stop by from 12pm midday to view the preparation of the umu feast. Umu is a traditionally a gathering of family to work in unity and share a meal when it is ready.
