Event description

;t=2s&ab_channel=GoatlipsMcDroneface

A 2hr masterclass on the magic of turning your organic waste into the best soil to grow your own organic food. Rod Logan, our market garden coordinator, will guide you through the pros and cons of his proven method of hot compost as well as worm farming. He will demystify home organics, giving you and your household the skills to close the loop on food waste!  Rod will explain what he has learned from his 20+ years of market gardening. You will then;

  • Learn the ins and outs of worm farming (let worms do the work!)
  • Learn all about compost ground systems
  • Meet other aspiring home composters and form a supportive community
  • If there's time, explore the Green Connect Farm site to see how composting works on a large scale

If you'd like to see your plants flourishing in your very own, home-made compost, then this workshop is for you! Compost is often called 'black gold' for its ability to replenish nutrients in the garden, retain precious moisture, prevent erosion, loosen clay and compacted soil to improve drainage and suppress unwanted weeds. The 2-hour workshop will begin with the assurance that closing the loop with your organic waste can be small scale and low effort. You don't have to live on a farm to become a compost pioneer! By the end of this workshop, you will be able to select the appropriate type of composting system for your needs, understand the basics of how and why this system works and apply the finished results to your plants.

The site is a working farm and is particularly steep and slippery in parts and, at this stage, is not accessible for prams, wheelchairs etc. The workshop includes a moderately strenuous walking tour of a steep, sloping and often very muddy site. It is your responsibility to ensure you can walk the site before making your booking. See the video above to check this is right for you.
