FAQs

  • What's the point of home composting?
    • Supercharges Garden Soil: Compost acts like a natural sponge for your soil, drastically improving its ability to retain moisture and essential nutrients, which means healthier plants and less watering needed.

    • Built-In Carbon Sink: Adding finished compost back into your garden helps capture and store carbon dioxide right in the soil rather than letting it escape into the atmosphere.

    • Chemical-Free Plant Food: Home composting turns everyday kitchen scraps and garden clippings into rich, dark "black gold," replacing the need for synthetic chemical fertilizers in your backyard.

    • Massive Landfill Relief: Around 30% to 50% of what the average household throws in the red-lid bin is food and organic waste, which takes up enormous amounts of valuable landfill space.

    • Methane Gas Prevention: When organic matter rots anaerobically buried deep in a landfill, it produces methane a greenhouse gas significantly more potent than carbon dioxide. Composting keeps it aerobic, preventing those harmful emissions.

  • Do I need a garden to do home composting?

Not at all! You don't need a sprawling backyard to compost.

A big part of the workshop covers systems specifically designed for apartments, balconies, and small courtyards including worm farms, bokashi bins, and compact benchtop or sub-surface systems that take up barely any space.

  • How do I'm know if I'm a resident of Victoria park?
