Help make the Birrarung swimmable again At OPTIMA, we are committed to using optimisation for the public good. In partnership with Regen Melbourne, we are supporting a research initiative focused on restoring the Birrarung (Yarra River) to a state where it is healthy and safe for swimming. This work brings together existing datasets on river health, citizen science, river flows, and weather to identify priority areas for restoration and clean‑up. By applying optimisation techniques, the project supports evidence‑based decision‑making and helps direct volunteer efforts to where they will have the greatest impact. The research is led by Leilah Taouk, an OPTIMA PhD student at Monash University. Her work is instrumental in accelerating progress towards a cleaner, healthier river. We are seeking donations to support Leilah’s stipend and training and to ensure the continuity of this important research. Your contribution will directly support practical action towards making the Birrarung swimmable again. Let’s use optimisation to create real environmental impact.
