Amelia Farrugia is one of Australia’s most luminous musical talents and celebrated sopranos. Born in Sydney of Maltese heritage, graduated with high distinction from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1992 and has since graced stages worldwide with her breathtaking artistry and charisma.
Her operatic debut with Opera Australia in 1994 marked the start of an extraordinary career, featuring lead roles such as the enchanting Manon in Massenet's Manon, the vivacious title character in Lehár’s The Merry Widow, and the spirited Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff. Internationally, she has performed with Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera Hong Kong, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she was entrusted with major roles in 2012 and 2015.
In 2005, Farrugia achieved a milestone, becoming the first Australian soprano since Dame Joan Sutherland to release a solo album on the prestigious Decca label. Her album, Joie de Vivre!, a radiant celebration of French melodies, earned her a Classical ARIA nomination.
Amelia’s passion extends beyond performance. As the founder of Sydney Sings Pty Ltd, she nurtures young talent, with her students earning placements at world-renowned institutions like The Juilliard School. Her influence as an artist and mentor cements her place as a cherished figure in Australia’s cultural landscape, captivating audiences and inspiring the next generation of singers.
