Event description

Qualitative Data Analysis at UTS series

'Conducting ‘glocal’ research: Reflections on asset-based sport-for-development'

This is the seventh session in the ten-part series: Qualitative Data Analysis at UTS. The aim of this series is to showcase and celebrate the diverse and innovative ways UTS researchers are working with qualitative data.

In this session Associate Professor Nico Schulenkorf and Dr Adam Cohen from the UTS Business School will share their experiences on conducting qualitative research around different sport-for-development (SFD) projects in international settings.*

Put simply, SFD projects use sport as a strategic vehicle to achieve various non-sporting outcomes, including social, cultural, educational and health-related development. In this session, the presenters will focus on facets of asset-based community development as an underpinning approach towards making relevant and meaningful contributions in disadvantaged settings. In doing so, they reflect on recently completed SFD research in the Pacific Islands and highlight their experiences collecting qualitative data and collaborating in developing areas along with the accompanying challenges. They also discuss the importance of engaging in research that has an intrinsic value and genuine meaning to the researcher.

* please note, this session will be recorded.
