What We'll Do

6.30 pm - Learn - Simple Sourdough Demonstration and Panel Discussion

Presented by Sheree Conroy and Members

Have you always wanted to make sourdough but worried it might be too tricky, time-consuming or complicated?

Come along to our next Connect and Learn evening and discover how simple sourdough can be.

Sheree will demonstrate the straightforward method she uses to make sourdough as part of her busy life. She doesn’t describe herself as a sourdough expert. Instead, she has found an approach that works for her, and she’s keen to share what she has learned along the way.

What We’ll Learn

Sheree will take us through the important steps, including:

  • Feeding and caring for a sourdough starter, or ‘mother’

  • Choosing simple ingredients

  • The first steps in making a loaf

  • Stretching and folding the dough

  • Forming a loaf ready for the fridge

  • Baking the loaf and fitting sourdough into a weekly rhythm

There will also be an opportunity to take home some of Sheree’s sourdough ‘mother’ so you can begin your own sourdough journey.

Then it’s time for a sourdough conversation

Following the demonstration, we’ll hear from a panel of Permaculture Toowoomba Inc. members who make their own sourdough. They’ll share the recipes, techniques and ideas that work for them.

We’ll explore:

  • Different recipes and approaches

  • Ideas for adding flavour to your sourdough

  • The health benefits of sourdough

  • Tips for making sourdough fit into everyday life

  • Questions and troubleshooting

There’s no need to be an experienced baker. Come along if you’re completely new to sourdough, have tried it before without success, or simply want to discover a different approach.

You’ll leave with practical knowledge, inspiration and perhaps a jar of sourdough starter ready to begin your own baking adventure.

Most importantly, we hope you’ll discover that sourdough doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be a simple, satisfying way to bring traditional food skills into our everyday lives.

Come along, learn together and share the sourdough love!

We encourage attendees to bring surplus sourdough starter for the Share Table.

7.45 pm – Connect – Light Supper (provided) and Share Table

A light supper will be served (including Gluten Free and Vegan options).

Please bring your own KeepCup or mug so we can reduce waste.

Sharing of produce on the Share Table opens after the presentation to allow plenty of time for everyone to place their donations, and then allow you to browse, connect and make your selections during supper.

Parking

Free off-street parking is available under the library (enter from Victoria Street).

Access

The venue has access for wheelchairs, walking frames, and strollers as needed. Everyone is welcome (including children with parental supervision).

We hope we see you there!

What to Bring

  • KeepCup or similar for your drink at supper (we're trying to minimise waste)

  • Donations of surplus produce for the Share Table
