Event description

Storytelling Workshops!

Storytelling is one of the oldest artforms - and is integral to knowing who we are and our place in the world. In collaboration with Ryde Council, local creative actors and musicians, all Ryde women are invited to participate in storytelling workshops that celebrate our diversity, our connection to each other and the place we are living in.

The workshops take place at West Ryde Community Hall. They are facilitated by Artistic Director Lliane Clarke, and actors Hasitha Adhikariarachchi and local writer Samantha Sirimanne Hyde.

Your story may be recorded and released as a podcast on the Voices of Women Podcast on Apple.

And in a small space, you story may be presented to the public in a rehearsed readings event for friends and family, which includes music written for the stories, and a short screening of films from the award-winning Voices of Women film 'Entanglement'.

This program celebrates the joy and connection of the female perspective and builds on the strong experience of Voices of Women and models of engagement that have been practised all over New South Wales. The program is focussed on developing self esteem, confidence and identity which comes with women learning new creative skills and being empowered to share their story and connect with others.

With a focus on the South Asian Community, this project supports diversity and connection, including with the recognition of our past and importance of the Wallumedegal clan of the Darug people who are the traditional owners of the City of Ryde area. It welcomes all women, and female identifying people, who want to share and connect.
