Unveiling Local Noongar Artistry in Connections to Home
"Connections to Home" is a vibrant showcase celebrating the rich Aboriginal culture and local visual arts within the City of Swan region. This exhibition features twelve new artworks, each meticulously crafted by practicing Noongar artists from our locality. These pieces have been recently commissioned for inclusion in the City of Swan Art Collection.
Stretching from Bullsbrook in the north to Guildford in the south, and from Gidgegannup in the east to Malaga in the west, the City of Swan stands proudly on land that has always been and will always remain home to our First Nations people. These communities have lovingly cared for this country for over 60,000 years, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to inspire.
Each artwork commissioned for this exhibition embodies the theme "Connections to Home." Our artists, through their creative expressions, illuminate the vibrant and living Noongar culture within the City of Swan – Weeip region.
The featured artists include Hayley Thomson, Crystal Quartermaine, Lea Taylor, Rickesha Burdett, Jeanette Garlett, Philip Hanson, Brianna Dawson, Danielle Nelson, Bungaan (Joanne Parfitt), Julie Winmar, Jarnda Councillor-Barns, Sarah Humphries, and Shirleen Humphries.
These twelve artworks will also be highlighted in the City of Swan’s 2024 Community Calendar. This calendar is a complimentary annual City of Swan publication, mass-printed and made available for residents to collect at the end of each calendar year. The calendar not only keeps you updated with important City dates but also offers information about key City services, facility locations, and contact details for the Councillors and administration. You can pick up your free calendar during the exhibition or sign up here (link TBC) to have one delivered to your doorstep.
Join us in celebrating this unique confluence of tradition, culture, and local artistry
