Would you know how to help a mate get the support they need?

MATES Connector Training equips participants with the practical skills and confidence to recognise when someone may be struggling, help keep them safe, and connect them to the support they need.

A MATES Connector is a trusted workmate who knows how to recognise when someone may be struggling, start a supportive conversation, and connect them with appropriate support. Connectors aren't counsellors or mental health professionals—they play a vital role in suicide prevention by helping people access the support they need.

During this session, participants learn to:

·         Understand the role of a MATES Connector.

·         Recognise and respond to invitations for help.

·         Practice open, direct and supportive conversations about suicide.

·         Build confidence to connect someone with further care and support.

·         Explore how personal attitudes and beliefs influence the way we respond to someone in distress.

·         Look after your own wellbeing as a Connector.

Participants learn through presentations, group discussion, practical activities and skills practice in a safe and supportive environment. The workshop builds the confidence to support others when it matters most and incorporates key elements of the internationally recognised safeTALK program, providing practical skills that can be applied in both the workplace and everyday life.

The workshop is suitable for anyone aged 16 years and over, with no previous training or experience required.

Morning tea will be provided.

Free – thanks to the support of MATES in Construction SA's industry and funding partners, this training is provided at no cost to participants.
