Event description
Conscious Christmas
In this 45 minute workshop we will explore some ideas on how you can have a more sustainable, low waste festive season for you and your family.
2020 has reminded us all that the most important part of Christmas is the time we get to spend with our family and much less about the consumerism often associated with the Christmas season. The session will look at the following topics:
- Christmas expectations
- Christmas trees and decorations
- Gifting and wrapping
- Planning for your Christmas feast and reducing food waste
There will be plenty of time for questions at the end and participants will receive a handy resource package following the event.
Who are we?
Laura (She/Her) is passionate about bringing people together to make a positive difference in their communities. She has a background in sustainability education, community engagement, waste systems and she loves talking about food. Laura has worked in the environmental sector for the past 10 years with a range of different community groups and businesses.
Catherine (She/Her) has noticed that there is a gap in people's understanding of environmental issues and often has friends or family who seek advice on becoming more sustainable. She has found most people try their best and want to do more but are unsure, due to the fact that environmental education was not common in schools. Catherine is passionate about helping to support and educate these people on accessible sustainable practices. She has been working in education for the past 10 years and specifically in environmental education and sustainability for the past 5 years.
The cost of the workshop is free but we ask that you donate $5 to Second Bite who work to rescue surplus fresh food from landfill and redistribute it to local charities that support people in need within their communities. You can learn more about Second Bite here: https://www.secondbite.org
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we stand. We also acknowledge the climate and ecological crisis and all those working towards a sustainable future.
