- Purpose of keeping records and how this influences the content of case notes
- Factors to consider when determining the style of case notes to use
- Legal and ethical considerations including what is reportable and or in-admissible in a court of law
- Implications for records management of security and electronic records
- Different styles of case notes and discuss the features of narrative vs observational and template styles
- Do's and don'ts of language and content when writing case notes
Who is this course suitable for?
Workers within the Community Sector and Social Services who are required to keep case notes would benefit from this workshop.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define the appropriate use of language
- Determine what to include and exclude from case notes
- Document disclosures and physical observations to ensure case notes meet the requirements for reporting
- Write case notes that are admissible in a court of law
- Identify the various styles used when writing case notes
