You have a place at the table, now how do you make the most of it?
If you represent consumers on a health committee, advisory group or project group, meetings can come with unfamiliar papers, procedures and expectations. This workshop will help you understand how meetings work, prepare your contribution and take part with greater confidence.
It is for current consumer representatives and people preparing to join a health committee or advisory group in Western Australia. Register to build practical meeting skills alongside others interested in improving healthcare.

Who is this workshop for?
This session is for you if you:
• Currently sit on a health committee, advisory group or project group as a consumer representative.
• Are preparing to take on a consumer representative role.
• Want a clearer understanding of meeting papers and committee processes.

What will you learn?
The workshop will help you:
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of committee members.
• Read a committee’s terms of reference to see what the group can decide and what it expects of members.
• Use an agenda to prepare for a meeting and minutes to follow up afterwards.
• Think about when and how to bring a consumer perspective into a discussion.
• Identify questions to ask when a meeting process or your role is unclear.
Your presenter: Tania Harris
Tania Harris is HCCWA's Advocacy and Engagement Manager and Aboriginal and Disability Engagement Lead.
Tania is an Aboriginal woman originally from Queensland. Prior to coming to the Health Consumers’ Council, Tania worked on various Aboriginal programs from ear health to parenting support. She has a special interest in the areas of disability and young people, and how their engagement and empowerment in the health system can be supported and encouraged from an early age.

The workshop will be held online via Zoom. We will email the joining link to registered attendees before the workshop. You can join using a computer, tablet or smartphone.

No. This session welcomes current representatives and people preparing to join a committee or advisory group.
- Do I need to complete another HCCWA workshop first?
No. However if you are looking to build your skills register for the next Introduction to Consumer Representation workshop.

Yes. There is no cost to attend.
- What should I do if I can no longer attend?
Please cancel your ticket or contact us as soon as possible. This allows us to offer your place to someone else.
- Can I attend if I live outside Perth?
Yes! This workshop is online, so you can participate from anywhere in Western Australia.
