Contact Improvisation Beginnings
Event description
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a partner-based dance practice that explores movement through physical contact, shared weight, and spontaneous collaboration. It emerged in the 1970's, combining elements from dance, martial arts, and somatic practices.
This series of workshops offers a safe, clear, and embodied introduction to the core principles and physical tools of the practice — giving participants both conceptual understanding and felt experience. Exercises will include the use of bamboo sticks and tennis balls between various partners to learn principles of linking and delinking, following and leading, maintaining a shared point of contact, weight sensing, and directional listening.
Please arrive on time, bring some water and wear loose clothing that covers the legs and shoulders.
