Staged Reading of "Attic of Memory" by Jacob Juntunen
Event description
Be in the first audience to hear the new play-in-progress by Jacob Juntunen! This staged reading produced by Contraband Theatre and funded by the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission includes a free light brunch and a conversation with the author to follow.Â
Hosted by the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, Attic of Memory is Juntunen's latest script after See You in a Minute (2023), which was nominated by the St. Louis Theater Circle for Outstanding New Play. Come be a part of Attic of Memory's development!
Attic of Memory opens in the year 2046 in the home office/attic of an embittered poet and professor. His dead graduate student—made ghastly by garish white makeup—perches on the professor’s desk. The restless ghost dares the professor to commit suicide. The graduate student died in the pandemic of 2041, but their contribution to a patent made the professor and his university wealthy. This blood money is hard to reconcile. At the end of the first act, the Professor uses his attic’s gas heater to attempt suicide. The second act is a hallucinatory journey with his dead student through the grad student’s mysterious past. The journey makes the Professor grasp for survival. But will he be able to survive his suicide attempt?
