    Event description

Fabled is thrilled to host a book discussion and signing with both Rebecca Nguyen and Trent Clifford! We will be discussing Rebecca's book, The 23rd Hero, and Trent's book, Reclaiming Faith, on Wednesday, November 6th at 7PM. We hope you'll join us for this riveting discussion about both books!

    About The 23rd Hero

In a world ravaged by climate change, a mysterious time travel agency known as the Program sends carefully selected Heroes back in time on missions to prevent environmental damage before it happens.

Sloane Burrows secretly longs to be a Hero and restore the natural world of her childhood—a world she can envision with absolute clarity because of her superpower memory. But her father raised Sloane to believe her “freak memory” is a shameful flaw that should be hidden from the world. Sloane stuffs her dream of being a Hero and conceals her memory to the point of making herself sick. Her only respite from the shame is the recurring dream she’s been having for nearly a decade.

In it, a breathtakingly beautiful man makes her feel accepted in a way she never has in waking life—not despite her memory, but because of it. But when the man in the dream shows up in real life, Sloane’s world is turned upside down. Not only is Bastian a flesh-and-blood person, but he’s from the Program, and he wants her to do the one thing that will shatter her chances of winning her dad’s love: become a Hero, travel back in time to sixteenth-century France, and use her superpower memory to save the world.

    About Rebecca Nguyen:

Rebecca Anne Nguyen (she/her) is the winner of the 2024 Reader's Choice Award for Best Adult Book (Bronze) for her debut novel, The 23rd Hero, and the recipient of the 2019 Foreword Indies Award (Silver) for the memoir Where War Ends. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Insider, and Slackjaw, among others.

    About Reclaiming Faith:

Reclaiming Faith is a tender yet practical approach to uniting the spirituality you love with the religion you've lost. After surviving marital abuse and religious discrimination, Clifford reconciled his sexual and spiritual identities and now vulnerably invites you to learn from his journey. Modeled after his own process of healing, Clifford teaches you how to:

    · Read the Bible as though you live among its pages
    · Worship as though "church" was a personal sanctuary, not a public one
    · Look inside yourself as though God actually dwells there (because God does!)

    About Trent Clifford:

Trent Clifford is a poet, speaker, spiritual director, award-winning playwright, and most recently, the author of Reclaiming Faith: Learning to Reimagine Church, God, and Ourselves. His author journey has already taken him across the country, where he shares openly about his journey with faith and teaches individuals and congregations to reimagine the sacred. He is also the Artistic Director of Wild Imaginings, Waco's first professional theatre company, and as such is deeply passionate about storytelling both on the page and on the stage.
