The Conversation Group Toolkit is a resource for conversational lessons and groups with higher level learners. It is designed to give you what you need to run your class or group with minimal preparation. The card sets in the Toolkit have been carefully designed to generate interest, build language, and encourage meaningful conversations. They are intended to be used flexibly, so feel free to adapt the activities to suit your group. All Toolkit purchases include postage within Australia and access to our conference recording.

Conversation Matters - Training Day - July 2023

Be encouraged in your relationship with God and renewed in your English teaching. Hear a Bible message from Bruce Stanley, Senior Minister at St Philip's Eastwood, and learn all about our new English Conversation Card Toolkit. You can look forward to free hard-copy resources, the choice of an elective, and gathering in regional groups to share and pray. It promises to be a great day of building your skills and learning from others.

Electives:

1. Effective help in the classroom
Are you a classroom helper? Do you have a classroom helper? Would you like some tips on how to increase the effectiveness of your classroom help? This seminar focuses on some of the dos and don’ts of helping in the classroom. It aims to encourage both teachers and helpers as they work together to assist learners.

Liz Walker, who is a member of the Cross Cultural Services Team, will share her experience with us. On the days Liz isn't working at Anglicare, she's teaching in the Adult Migrant Education Program at TAFE. In her professional life, Liz has been blessed to work with many outstanding Teachers Assistants and classroom helpers who she owes a debt of gratitude.
2. Recognise and respond to domestic abuse
Did you know that 1:4 women in Australia experience domestic abuse? For women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds there can be many barriers to seeking help.
In this seminar we will examine: What is domestic abuse? How might you know if someone is experiencing domestic abuse and how can you respond and help them? We will look at some of the challenges culturally diverse women face and offer suggestions for where to find appropriate help and resources. We will invite you to consider when it might be appropriate in English classes to talk about what a respectful relationship looks like, and when a relationship has become unsafe.

This seminar will be presented by Lynda Dunstan, Anglicare’s Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Advisor. Lynda has worked for Anglicare for fifteen years, the last five specifically as DFV advisor. Her background is in social work, family dispute resolution and DV response, and she is an accredited trainer in the Safe and Together TM model of practice. Lynda provides training both to Anglicare staff on domestic violence response and to Sydney Anglican churches. She attends Beecroft Anglican Church.
