Event description

Our conversations 4 conservation are a friendly meeting of like-minded people who are interested in conservation, and would like to hear about and discuss books and issues about nature, sustainability and the preservation of our environment. This meeting's book and hot topic are:

  • Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer;
  • the Commonwealth Government's revision of the Environment Protection & Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act

Enjoy an Australian's interpretation of Kimmerer's work with a short presentation from our volunteer Greg March, followed by conversation and some refreshments (tea, coffee and snacks).

As a botanist, Robin Wall Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings these lenses of knowledge together to show that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings are we capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learning to give our own gifts in return. For an excerpt of this fascinating book, use this link: https://www.penguin.com.au/boo...

In addition, our volunteer Dave Tucker will guide us through a discussion about the review of the EPBC Act.
