Interested in art collecting?
As we anticipate the excitement, the treasures and bidding wars of the FoG auction on 25 May, join us for a fun and informal talk about the joys of collecting art. A conversation with Gallery director Dr Lee-Anne Hall, art consultant Jackie Walker and our Gallery’s own avid collector Astrid Reed. Hear them talk about their own art collections and what inspires them.

Jackie Walker:
My passion for art began during a visit to the National Gallery of Australia's "Old Masters - New Visions" exhibition while I was still in high school. Growing up in a quiet corner of Regional New South Wales, the vibrant world of art felt like a revelation to me. From that moment, I was captivated, leading me to pursue a degree in Visual Art at university and eventually embark on a career in teaching. My affinity for art has taken me to galleries, both local and international, where I find boundless joy and inspiration. Art, in its many forms, brings me immense happiness, and I am eager to share this enthusiasm with you.

Astrid Reed:
My personal art collection is eclectic and deeply sentimental. It reflects my history, the places I’ve lived and worked and the people I’ve known and loved. It includes paintings, ceramics, textiles, prints and photography. I have studied art and art history and I’ve worked in art museums, commercial galleries, and auction houses and I’ve been inspired by all of these experiences. I love to support emerging artists, but I also have treasured artworks which were either inherited, gifted to me or which I have purchased on the secondary market. I love to be surrounded by beautiful and extraordinary artworks, craft and design and I’m definitely no minimalist.
