Event description

This is for you! These education and information sessions are for the people who support or supported a family member and or friend living with mental health and or alcohol and other drug use. We will have a range of guest speakers sharing information with us about a range of topics. The topics have been chosen as a result of listening to what families and friends have told us that they want to hear about.

You can come along for a whole session, or just a little while. You can share, contribute, and ask questions, or you can just listen. You can use the chat to ask your questions and keep your camera off to protect your privacy and confidentiality; whatever is comfortable for you.

The Topic for this session:

The presentation is from both the Public Guardian and TASCAT:

Public Guardianship – overview roles, service, and interface with Family and Friends

TASCAT – What we do under the Act, the Tribunal powers, and practical information

Still not sure if this is for you? Do you identify as someone who:

  • Lives in Tasmania
  • Is 18 years or older
  • Provides informal emotional, social, practical, financial, physical, and or mental support to a family member and or friend living with mental ill health and or alcohol and other drug use
  • Impacted by a family member's and or friend's mental ill health and or alcohol and other drug use, but not necessarily "involved"
  • Wants to feel heard, understood, and take a moment to look after themselves
  • Wants to build their capacity and confidence in their support role - whatever that support role may look like

Please join us for this online Education and Information Session. A light morning tea will be provided at the face-to-face session.

Our sessions are NOT open to people with lived and living experience of mental ill health and or AOD use.
These sessions are NOT open to those who work in service provision and are coming in their work capacity. If you work in service provision, but support a family member and or friend living with mental ill health and or AOD use in your personal life, then you are more than welcome, we just ask that you wear your “family and friend hat”.
