Cool Climate Permaculture 2025
Event description
In these three workshops, we will apply permaculture principles (and related approaches such as organics and biodynamics, regenerative agriculture and agroecology) to our cool climate gardens, building on the introductory course we held at the Guyra Neighbourhood Centre Community Garden last year.
In workshop 1, we explore 'obtaining a yield' through local foods and growing methods, cover key elements of permaculture design and celebrate with a locally-sourced cool climate lunch.
In workshop 2, we take a deep dive into mushroom cultivation with Shane from Uralla Gourmet Mushrooms, look at ways we can turn different types of 'waste' into resources for our gardens, and sample gourmet mushrooms over lunch (please bring a 5L bucket with close-fitting lid in which to take home your own growing kit!).
In workshop 3, we'll focus on greenhouse and glasshouse structures to extend the growing season, and we'll look at harvest, including seed saving, preserving and ferments, with tasty condiments to try over lunch.
You are welcome join in one, two, or all three sessions. Gardeners, farmers, ‘permies’ or total newbies all welcome; we are all here to share and learn.
All workshops will be held within the Guyra Neighbourhood Centre Community Garden, which is an accessible venue.
Workshops will run from 10am - 2pm and cost $25.
Lunch and course notes are included. Please note the program is adaptive and subject to change.
