National Public Speaking & Debating Competition Registration

We’re thrilled to announce that JCI Illawarra, in partnership with JCI Australia, will be hosting the National Public Speaking and Debating Competitions at the 2024 JCI Australia National Convention in Illawarra! 

Whether you’re passionate about public speaking, debating, or both, this is your chance to showcase your skills. To participate, simply use this page to register!

Here’s a quick overview of the competition formats:

1. Public Speaking - This is a competition where you will have the opportunity to respond to an assigned topic, with a pre written speech, and deliver that in front of all attendees. 

2. Debating - This is a team based competition where your topic and whether you are affirmative (trying to persuade and judges the audience that the topic statement is true) or negative (trying to persuade the audience and judges that the statement is false) will officially be announced on the day. You will have to work with two other team mates to establish your arguments whilst also rebutting (or replying) to the other team's potential arguments as well. 

For the debating competition, we encourage you to register with two teammates to form a full team. If you're unable to arrange a team, don’t worry—we'll pair you with other participants to ensure everyone can compete.

All participants will receive a list of potential topics 7 days prior to the event so that you can begin preparing. JCI Australia's national competition reflects JCI's world competitions. 

Participation Requirements:

• You must be a paid attendee of the convention for at least Saturday’s events.
• There is no additional fee to enter the competitions.
