Half of us lost loved ones to the pandemic. All of us were impacted. How do we remember our loss and loneliness? What would true healing look like?

Breathing Room is a documentary film about memory, art, and healing in the wake of COVID. Our film follows Detroiters and New Yorkers working to commemorate the pandemic through public art. Breathing Room traces the evolution of two COVID memorials over three years, spotlighting the women whose creativity and activism shaped these projects. A memorial in itself, Breathing Room commemorates lives lost and communities changed by COVID and celebrates the healing power of art.

Join producer/director Charlotte Juergens (University of Michigan Ph.D. Candidate in American Culture) for a screening of clips from the film-in-progress, followed by conversation. Hosted by Space 2435 with support from Michigan Humanities and the University of Michigan departments of American Culture and Film Television and Media.

Support our film with a tax-free donation via our nonprofit fiscal sponsor, New York Women in Film & Television:
