An evening with Bernd Ruf - community talk

Join us for a special evening with Bernd Ruf, internationally recognised expert in trauma recovery and founder of Emergency Pedagogy, visiting Adelaide from Germany to share nearly two decades of experience supporting children, young people, adults and communities in the aftermath of crisis.

Bernd comes to Australia shortly after an international Emergency Pedagogy response to a school shooting in the Philippines, where the response team included three members of Emergency Pedagogy Without Borders – Australia.

Together, the international and local team worked alongside students, teachers, parents and professionals to help restore safety, connection and hope within a deeply affected school community.

This evening is for educators, parents, psychologists, youth workers, community workers, school leaders, university staff, local government representatives and anyone interested in supporting people impacted by traumatic events— whether caused by natural disasters such as bushfires, floods and cyclones, or human-made events such as violence, accidents, displacement and community tragedy.

Bernd will share practical, creative and relationship-based approaches that can help people stabilise after overwhelming experiences and begin the process of recovery. He will explore how trauma can affect behaviour, learning, relationships and wellbeing, and the vital role that caring adults, schools, services and communities can play in creating the conditions for healing.

Author of Educating Traumatized Children, Bernd founded Emergency Pedagogy in 2006 and has since led more than 150 international crisis interventions.
