Artist Talk Lisa Walker
Description
Join Lisa Walker in conversation with curator Kyla Mackenzie at The Suter on Saturday 14 November at 11 am.
Jewellery is often valued for its gold, gemstones and expert skill. Although a trained goldsmith, Lisa Walker is widely known for her inventive, curious, and sometimes humorous work that stretches those expectations. Her pendant ‘heads’ in That Furrows the Brow range from sewn and stuffed linen to densely beaded stones such as garnet, turquoise, labradorite and aquamarine, with some combining stones and soft materials.
On loan from The National in Ōtautahi Christchurch, the pendants continue a lively, colourful, and intuitive questioning of what jewellery can be, in ways that may well furrow the brow.
