THEMOS MEXIS

An intimate performance presenting the original music of one of Australia's most well-known Greek-

Australian Composers, conductors and pianists.

Themos Mexis was born in Rhodes in 1947 and migrated to Australia with his family in 1953. He exhibited a passion for music from a very young age. During high school, he undertook preliminary studies at the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music. In 1967, he left for Europe to further his musical education. In 1970, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Hellenic Conservatorium in Athens. Since then, Themos has forged a distinguished career as an internationally recognised musical performer and composer.

The performance features two of the most highly regarded and well-known local Greek-Australian vocalists in

Sydney SANDY CONSTANTOPEDOS and IRENE VACONDIOS.

Sandy Constantopedos has also sung for the likes of Greek maestro, Themos Mexis, and the legendary composer, Mikis Theodorakis. Irene Vacondios is a Singer-songwriter, performing on the World music scene, primarily Greek (all genres) and English, rock and contemporary.

The evening will begin with a performance of the original songs & poetry of

ELENI ELEFTERIAS

Eleni Elefterias (Kostakidis) is a Greek-Australian songwriter, author, educator, researcher, and cultural advocate who has dedicated more than four decades to promoting Greek language, music, literature, and culture in Australia. She received a grant from Australia Council for the Arts in her youth and studied music, composition and guitar in Greece in 1983. She was one of the founding members of The Boîte Sydney and has been organising events for The Play Space Boîte and later the La Boîte Performance Space until recently.

Together with Music partner, arranger, vocalist and pianist FELICIA HARRIS they will be performing some of Eleni's most popular songs. Felicia Harris has performed in many choirs as well as arranged music and trained choirs for perormances. She has sung at many La Boîte events and is currently in rehearsals for a production of Come From Away with the Strathfield Musical Society.

As an added bonus on the night we have a Special guest -

COSTAS POLYDOROPOULOS

Costas Polydoropoulos has been performing for many years including having sung at concerts with the composers Themos Mexis and Timotheos Arvanitakis and is currently performing every Friday night at the Yia Mas Greek Restaurant at St Peters.
