Learn basics of botanical collage at art Studio no 16 in the vibrant M|Arts Precinct of Murwillumbah!

Workshop Description:

Discover the basics of botanical flatlay in this introductory workshop.

Perfect for beginners and enthusiasts, this session will teach you the foundational techniques for creating stunning botanical compositions.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have the skills to create and photograph beautiful flatlays, ready to share on social media or use in personal projects.

Workshop Outline:

Introduction: What is a Flatlay/Collage in art?

  • History, Concept & Influence on Modern Media: Learn about the origins and evolution of creative collage. Understand beginings of flatlay and  how flatlays have become a popular tool in social media, marketing, and website design.

Basic Composition Techniques:

  • Explore the essentials of composition to create balanced and engaging flatlays. Understand how to use space, colour, and shapes effectively in your compositions.

Setting Up Botanical Collage:

  • Choosing Backgrounds and Botanical elements: Tips for selecting suitable backgrounds and subject of collage.
  • Simple Arrangements: Learn how to arrange objects for a visually pleasing composition with elements of Storytelling.
  • Learn other methods of using botanicals in art compositions, how to prepare & preserve plants.

Photography basics:

  • Introduction to lighting - natural versus a lightbox. Tips for capturing great flatlay photos using a smartphone.

Summary and Takeaway:

  • Each participant will photograph their composition and receive an A4 print or a ready to use file to take home.

All required materials and equipment are provided.
