Event description

The Combat Therapy Centre team are so excited to offer these free sessions during the January school holidays.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)?

BJJ is a martial art that empowers children both physically, mentally and emotionally.  It’s not about size or strength, it’s about technique and strategy.  With a strong emphasis on ground fighting, BJJ teaches valuable self-defense skills while promoting respect and sportsmanship.

What are the times?

The sessions will be broken into 3 different age groups to support the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of the children and teens.  Each session will mirror the start times moving into Term 1:

3-5 years old – parent/child: 3.40-4.10pm

6-11 years old: 4:20 PM - 5:10 PM

12-17 years old: 5:20 PM – 6:20 PM

Parents are encouraged to stay and watch

What should my child expect?
  • High physicality and lots of fun
  • Appropriate training buddies
  • Learn some basic skills and fundamental self-defense techniques
  • Connect with other children and young people who share the same passion for high energy rough and tumble in a controlled environment
  • Our internationally qualified and experienced instructors create a positive and inclusive environment and will be there to guide your child every step of the way
What are the benefits of BJJ for my child?
  1. Discipline and Focus: BJJ instills discipline and helps sharpen concentration, crucial skills for school and life
  2. Physical Fitness: Your child will stay active, build strength, flexibility, and coordination while having a blast
  3. Confidence Boost: Mastering new techniques and achieving goals on the mat builds confidence that translates into everyday life
  4. Problem Solving: BJJ is like chess with your body! Children learn to think strategically and solve challenges on the fly
  5. Friendship and Teamwork: Our BJJ community is all about camaraderie. Your child will make lifelong friends while learning the importance of teamwork
What do they need to bring?
  • Wear shorts (preferably no pockets) and t-shirt
  • A drink bottle with water - it's hot work and we take lots of drink breaks

Is this sport appropriate for girls?
We have the most amazing girls and young women that attend our MMA and BJJ classes each week. This sport provides them with valuable self-defense skills, enhancing their confidence and ability to protect themselves as well as taking it to the boys on the mat. Learning various martial arts techniques equips them with the knowledge to handle potentially threatening situations, fostering a sense of empowerment and security.

Is my child too young for BJJ?                                                                                                                                                         Our sessions for 3-5 year olds are designed to be fun, engaging and age appropriate, focusing on physical, cognitive and emotional development.  Our sessions are developed and overseen by an Early Childhood professional where play-based games are used to improve gross motor skills, balance, and overall physical co-ordination along with listening, social and problem-solving skills, whilst having fun and developing a stronger connection to their caregiver.

My child is also interested in the FREE MMA Come and Try Sessions!                                                                                              Brilliant.  If your child is 8 years or older, we would love to welcome them to our FREE MMA Come and Try Sessions.  Click on the link below to register them for that class as well.
