Christchurch Community Planting Day - Sponsored by Honda
Event description
Join us to plant 1,500 native trees.
Trees That Count and Honda New Zealand will be partnering with Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke, Rāpaki to plant native trees on this site.
Join us at the planting site which is right on the coast, with beautiful views over the Lyttelton harbour and of native bush in the gully at the bottom of the site. The planting site has a gentle gradient and thick grass.
We will be planting above a native bush line to helping to reduce erosion and sediment exiting the harbour ecosystem below, whilst also supporting the sites native restoration process.
There is a flat section at the top where we will have kai and it will be short 5-minute walk to the toilet.
Parking is very limited so please carpool where possible. There will be shuttle bus from the parking area at Omaru Road to the planting site on Governors Bay Road. The entrance is easy to miss so please keep an eye out for the flags and signage by the roadside.
Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke, Rāpaki will provide all tools and equipment needed but if you have your own gloves please bring along. Please also wear long pants and sleeves to protect you from scratchy and irritating plants. Please also wear sturdy footwear (hiking or work boots are great) plus a hat and rain jacket. We will provide a BBQ after the event and have drinking water on site but please bring a reusable water bottle and any snacks you might like.
