Concussion Education for Communities
Description
You're invited to a free, online presentation on concussion signs and symptoms, early management as well as how to interpret the guidelines for Return to School and Work and Return to Sport after concusion presented by Dr Jemma Keeves.
Concussion (also referred to as mild traumatic brain injury) is more common than many people realise, with over 200,000 people in Australia each year experiencing a concussion. It can happen at work, at home, on the road, on the sporting field, or from a simple fall. Knowing how to recognise common signs of concussion and what to do next matters, especially if specialist care isn't just around the corner.
This session brings clear, practical, evidence-based information to anyone who wants to better understand concussion. Whether you're a parent, coach or first aider, a teacher, someone caring for an older family member, experienced a concussion, or simply interested in the topic, you'll come away knowing how to spot the signs, what to do in the first few days, and how to support a safe recovery and return to everyday life, work or school and physical activity.
Dr Jemma Keeves (PhD) is a physiotherapist and concussion researcher at Curtin University in Western Australia, who is currently the national coordinator for the Australian Mild Traumatic Brain Injury research study (AUS-mTBI)
