Presented by SayIT - you are invited to an informative & entertaining session for Parents and carers is delivered with Susan’s famous ‘no-nonsense‘ approach and will cover the positive benefits of technology, as well as what parents need to be aware of. Covering a variety of important topics including

    • Reality & Risk. The reality of the online world. It’s not a matter of if – rather than when.
    • What are kids doing online. Learn the latest apps and platforms your kids are either on, want to be on or are being told about at school. TikTok, OmeTV, Discord, Yolo, Wink & more.
    • Online Grooming. What is it and when/how does it occur? Preventative measures. What are the warning signs & what to do if you suspect this is happening to your child.
    • Cyberbullying. What it is, where it happens, what it looks like, how to prevent and what to do if it occurs. Also the legal consequences and the possible criminal charges.
    • Sharing photos. The taking and sending of explicit images. The social and emotional consequences as well as the Law.
    • Sextortion. The how and what of this insidious crime which is targeting teen boys.
    • AI-generated photos. How does the law treat this?
    • Problematic Gaming. How to manage digital devices in your home to avoid problems and what to do if/when they arise.
    • Exposure to damaging content. Including online pornography & sites that encourage suicide, self-harm & eating disorders.
    • Top Tips – how to assist the children in your care to stay safe.

This session is a must-attend for Education Staff who want to gain valuable insights and practical advice on helping their children navigate the digital world safely.

Who is Susan McLean?

Susan McLean was the first Victorian Police Officer appointed to a position involving cybersafety and young people. She has been at the forefront of this field since 1994 when she took her first report of cyberbullying. Since then, Susan has conducted extensive research and completed advanced training in both the USA and UK. She is a sought-after presenter and advisor to schools, elite sporting bodies, and both State and Federal Governments. Additionally, Susan is a published author and a prominent media commentator.

Who is SayIT?
SayIT is a whole-of-community initiative promoting responsible digital citizenship across Mansfield Shire. Supported by all seven regional schools, Mansfield Shire Council, Victoria Police, MACE, Bendigo Bank - Community Bank Mansfield & District, WiNE Network, MASS, Mansfield District Hospital and local sporting groups, the project drives positive social change through education and engagement. Established in October 2024, the SayIT working group unites key stakeholders—educators, council representatives, health professionals, businesses, and sports clubs—committed to creating a safer digital environment for young people and the broader community.
