Description

Drawing from Nature - A Gentle Introduction to Nature Journaling

Discover the calming practice of nature journaling alongside artist and educator Kerry Warnholtz at beautiful Greenwood Lakes, Forestdale.

This is a two‑session series. Each date explores a different theme, and you’re welcome to join one or enjoy both for a deeper creative experience.

This session is suitable for ages 12+.

Participants will explore beginner-friendly ways to use simple sketching, writing and colouring techniques to capture moments out in nature. Perfect for beginners and nature lovers alike, you will build creative confidence while tuning into the delicate local ecosystem.

These immersive sessions combine mindful observation, sketching and reflective writing to help you connect more deeply with the local landscape, waterways and birdlife of the Oxley Creek catchment.

Inspired by the idea that our backyards form part of a larger connected landscape, participants will be encouraged to slow down, notice details and explore how small acts of observation can deepen our connection with nature and community.

All participants receive a custom creative nature kit, including a journal and pencils.

Notes:

You are also very welcome to bring along your own art supplies if you would like to explore other mediums such as coloured pencils, watercolours or your preferred journaling materials.

Please consider bringing a camping chair or small stool if you have one. While picnic tables are available, there will be opportunities to explore and journal in different locations around the lake and surrounding landscape, and having a portable seat may make the experience more comfortable.

Open to Forestdale locals, the wider Logan community and anyone wishing to discover one of Greater Brisbane’s quietly beautiful urban landscapes.

  • Next session: Saturday 1 August 2026 | 9:00am–12:00 noon

Whether you join us for one session or both, each workshop offers a complete experience — with participants attending both able to deepen their creative practice and connection to place.

Part of the Peaks to Points Festival and supported by the Logan City Council EnviroGrant.
