Domestic violence and workplace responses: From theory to practice

Domestic violence is a significant and urgent problem globally with approximately 1 in 3 women affected in their lifetime. There is still a long way to go for organisations, policymakers and other stakeholders to address domestic violence at work and across society.

Organised in collaboration with Victoria University of Wellington and UTS Business School, with funding from the Association of Industrial Relations Academics of Australia and New Zealand (AIRAANZ), we invite you to attend an online symposium in the new year discussing workplace responses to domestic violence. The symposium will present perspectives from researchers, government, and not-for-profits about workplace responses to domestic violence across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, as well as curate discussion on practical workplace and industrial responses.

  • Learnings on workplace responses to domestic violence from the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns
  • Impacts of intimate partner aggression disclosure in the context of work
  • Workplace training on domestic violence responses
  • Future employment pathways for refugee women impacted by domestic violence

  • Processes for implementing domestic violence policy, including in large government organisations
  • Using a lived experience lens to explore coercive control in family violence
