Event description

This is the second of two webinars on inequity in STEMM in VET from a partnership between WAVE and SAGE.
Please feel free to register for the first webinar via the link here -   https://events.humanitix.com/equity-in-stemm-evidence-and-practice-for-australia-s-vocational-education-sector-part-1

In an exciting collaboration, Women in Adult and Vocational Education (WAVE) and Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Australia are hosting a two-part webinar series aimed at addressing gender inequality within Australia's vocational education and training system, specifically in the sectors of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM). This initiative is designed to present compelling evidence and arguments demonstrating that gender inequality in our national education and training system is a persistent, prevalent, and preventable issue.

  • Part 1 will develop understanding of: GEDI and intersectionality, presenting the extent of the issue through data, evidence, and lived experiences. (26th of June)
  • Part 2 will focus on solutions discussing government and non-government initiatives, analysing what works and what doesn’t, including systemic changes and support mechanisms for women. (10th of July)

Both WAVE and SAGE are at the forefront of tackling inequality in different components of the national skills and education system. While SAGE focuses on the higher education and research sector by seeking to remove barriers in organizational systems, WAVE advocates for evidence-informed approaches across education and training, with a special focus on VET, Adult Education, and Foundation skills. This webinar aims to shed light on the persistent systemic inequality, particularly for women and those facing multiple forms of discrimination and oppression, and to promote work environments where everyone can thrive.

Together the two webinars will enable participants to:

  1. Increase their awareness: A deeper understanding of gender disparities within education and VET sectors.
  2. Understand what actionable strategies are available to address gender inequality specific to STEMM and VET

Through this collaboration SAGE and WAVE hope to life the capacity of stakeholders and those with a strong interest in equity, education and training to advocate for inclusive policies, promote leadership diversity, create equitable educational environments, and foster community building for effective collaboration.
