This Carer Conversation, Lunch and Wildlife Encounter have been designed to provide an opportunity for carers to connect with one another, share experiences, and consult on important issues impacting the caring role.

Carers will be warmly welcomed and introduced to Carers Queensland staff and leadership representatives. This will be followed by a dedicated Carer Conversation session, offering participants the chance to share insights and discuss the unique challenges and opportunities faced by carers.

Following our conversation, you’re invited to join us for a buffet lunch and the opportunity to get up close and personal with the local wildlife at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Q&A

What is an Expression of Interest? Due to limited places available for this event, we ask carers to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). This allows us to contact carers closer to the event date to confirm they are still available to attend if selected.

What age do I have to be to attend this event? This event is open to carers aged 18 years and over. Carers Queensland events provide a safe and welcoming environment where carers can connect and engage with one another. For this reason, we ask that children and/or the person you care for are not brought to the event. Please note that if a child or care recipient attends with you, you will be unable to participate in the event. Thank you for your understanding.

Am I an unpaid carer?  An unpaid carer provides care and support in an unpaid capacity to family member/s, or friends with, a disability, physical or mental illness, a substance dependency or who is aged or frail.

What if I am feeling unwell or my caring role stops me from attending? We understand that caring responsibilities can change unexpectedly, and sometimes people get sick. If you can’t attend, please let the facilitator know as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to another carer.

What does it mean that event participants must be registered with Carers Queensland prior to attending the event? All carers attending the event must be registered with Carers Queensland. Humanitix does not link to our internal database, so if you’re unsure of your registration status, please complete your Humanitix booking using accurate contact details. If you’re offered a place and are not yet registered, a Carers Queensland staff member will contact you to finalise your registration. If you are already registered, no further action is needed. What is the dress code? The dress code is neat casual—whatever you feel comfortable wearing. It is recommended to wear comfortable enclose shoes and weather appropriate attire such as a hat, sun safe clothing and/or an umbrella as the Sanctuary Wildlife Experience is outdoors.

What type of food will be served? A buffet lunch served with drinks. Platters will be placed on a shared buffet table with a variety of items available.

Is the venue accessible? Yes. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and their Homestead venue space is fully accessible, including ramp access and toilet facilities. When registering, please advise us of any accessibility requirements so we can support your participation.

Out-of-pocket expenses? All food and drinks (inc tea/coffee) will be catered for at this event.  If a carer would like purchase anything else this will be an out-of-pocket expense for the carer.

Is transport available to this event? No. Transport will not be available to this event.

Can I stay in the Sanctuary following the event? Yes, guests are welcome to stay, explore and enjoy themselves in the Sanctuary until closing at no additional cost, following the conclusion of the Carers Queensland event.
