UNSEEN Arts Hub Workshops
UNSEEN Arts Hub offers an intriguing and varied program of artists, artworks, installations, creative workshops and events unfolding over 3 days and evenings in QEII Square.
The UNSEEN Arts Hub is led by women representing the diversity of women who find themselves unexpectedly homeless.
This free event invites the public to engage with women who have or are experiencing homelessness.
Without the opportunity to learn from those with lived experience, the scale of women’s housing insecurity and homelessness will continue to be underestimated, making the future increasingly bleak for young women.

Workshop Offerings
Weaving Stories
Come along to the UNSEEN Arts Hub during 8-10 March and join local weaver Aunty Margaret Murray in a traditional weaving and yarning circle. Margaret Murray is a proud Maraura - Barkindji woman from her mother's side and her father’s connection is to Wiradjuri country, Wemba Wemba, Latti Latti, Narri Narri. She was born and raised at Dareton/Coomealla, and now lives and works in Albury Wodonga. Margaret has been weaving for more than 10 years and is passionate about sharing her knowledge with the community and encouraging people to express themselves through art. A wonderful time to gather around, sharing stories and conversations while learning the traditional First Nations art of weaving.
This workshop runs from 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 2:00pm, feel free to join within these times.
'Nyugar Waybare - Finding Home' coolamon making
Join Aunty Peta Link, a Gooreng Gooreng and Kabi Kabi woman as she teaches us the powerful art of making coolamons, the traditional First Nations carrying vessel. The coolamon, Aunty Peta tells us, is a metaphor for what we carry with us, a reminder to us to focus on what we need, and not to carry the weight of negative experiences. As you learn to make and decorate your own coolamon using the simple process of air-dried modelling clay, Aunty Peta will weave the meaning of the coolamon metaphor into her teaching, showing us how we can use its power and healing in our everyday lives. All materials supplied, no experience necessary.
This workshop targets young people from 7 to 16 years old. But all ages are welcome.
Belonging Workshop
Come and join Gina and learn how to make beautiful hats fit for the races! Create your own unique hat, that reflects your personality using a diverse range of colours, shapes, and sizes in styles including berets, masks, caps, fascinators, beanies, and headbands. The artworks created in the workshop will be showcased at the UNSEEN Arts Hub fashion runway event. Bring only your imagination, no experience in hat-making is required to participate.
This workshop runs from 11:00am to 1:00pm and 1:30pm to 3:30pm, feel free to join within these times.

What home means to me (BOOKED OUT)
Come and join CALD advocate Jai Jaru as she guides you in the beautiful art of cushion embroidery and decoration. In the workshop, you may choose a variety of colours, materials and objects to decorate your cushion and creatively express what home means to you .To inspire you, the workshop also features the exhibition ‘What home means to me‘, hosted by Bonnie Support Services, by women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who have or are experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness in which they tell their stories of hope and the importance of having a safe place to rest their head while rebuilding their lives.
'Unseen Women' Creative Body Mapping (BOOKED OUT)
The UNSEEN Women’s Artist Group invites women who have or are experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness to creatively express their thoughts and feelings about their experiences through the art of body mapping. In the workshop you will be able to create your ‘body map’ to your own design on a fabric banner approximately 2m x 1.5m which will be suspended from the ceiling in an exhibition here at Albury. To your banner you can add designs and materials of your choice – paint, photographs, text, and personal or found objects. Art materials and equipment will be supplied, and you can bring your own. Body mapping art is a powerful way to express the impacts our experiences have had on us, and the strength and resilience we find within.
