Futures Methods from Around the World- Warrane/Sydney
Event description
Futures Methods from Around the World (FMAW)
We are excited to welcome you to an FMAW gathering in Warrane/Sydney
FMAW is a global initiative whose work has been anchored in acknowledging and amplifying alternative, non-dominant knowledge and wisdom that sits with communities around the world. Non-dominant knowledge and wisdom have been systematically devalued, yet we strongly believe they can support us in imagining the kinds of transformative and collective pathways we need at this time.Â
FMAW is a mixture of on-the-ground work led by national leads in four countries: Aotearoa NZ, India, Mexico, and the USA. This work is further supported by virtual engagements, global calls for submissions, and partnerships in other geographies. Our goal is to create a public online repository of futures methods from around the world and weave new networks that bring different ways of envisioning a future together.
At this event, we will share the first of our findings, such as alternative governance models inspired by tribal communities in India, climate adaptive food and architecture inspired by communities living in extreme climate conditions, Maori relationship to time and intergenerational thinking. We ask how can these help us in imagining new social narratives and ways of relating? More equitable economic models and social contracts? And may they, in turn, inspire new storylines, shows and media?Â
We hope to find a community in Warrane/Sydney that wants to learn about this work, engage in conversation, and share their own contributions if it feels safe and appropriate.Â
This event is facilitated by Prateeksha Singh, FMAW Coordinator. Looking forward to meeting you!
