Hands On Puppetry! – TABLETOP (DIRECT MANIPULATION) PUPPETRY
Description
Learn the magic of bringing a complex puppet to life with other performers!
Participants apply the basic tenets of puppetry performance (rhythm, focus, breath, and tension) to direct manipulation puppets operated by three puppeteers sharing one puppet. This puppetry style requires working in close quarters with two other people, and an ability to stand, bend, and squat. (Please reach out if you would like to participate but have concerns about accessibility).
This workshop will be taught by Caroline Reck and Gricelda Silva, Co-Producing Artistic Directors of Glass Half Full Theatre.

- What level of experience are you looking for?
It is an introductory workshop, so little to no familiarity with tabletop puppetry will be fine. If you have done other styles of puppeteering before, some of those skills will transfer – but every style of puppetry is different!
- Is this open for young students?
While we do make work for all audiences, this workshop is geared for burgeoning adult puppeteers who want to learn and potentially present their puppet pieces at the Austin Puppet Incident (more info forthcoming!)
