Memory Postcard: free paper sculpture, photography and virtual reality workshop with Isobel Knowles & Van Sowerwine
Event description
What familiar objects exist in your mind even when they no longer exist in reality? Memory Postcard is a free workshop exploring memories of lost objects, for community members who have been affected in any way by the flooding events of recent years.
Isobel Knowles and Van Sowerwine are collaborating artists, award-winning filmmakers and digital creatives who work with miniatures to recreate real and imagined spaces. In this workshop participants will create simple paper sculptures that recall a piece of furniture from their past. These will be photographed, and a postcard-sized print of each memory space created for attendees to take home. Templates are provided as a guide.
Participants wishing to contribute to a larger creative Virtual Reality (VR) documentary work the artists are developing, examining the experience of floods, memory, and the objects and spaces lost, will be invited to record a short audio description of the work they have made during the workshop. These will be translated by the artists, along with the paper sculptures created, into a VR work to be experienced by participants.
