Event description
Hi, I’m Shining Rainbow!
I make jewellery from materials sourced from op shops and tip shops in the Illawarra and Southern Highlands. The philosophy of salvage is central to my costuming work. Waste and over-consumerism is especially prevalent in the fashion industry and I find joy in reclaiming and repurposing these things.
My design aesthetic is about pushing myself in terms of creativity. It is focused on what is unpredictable in juxtaposition of style and unexpected in colour combination. It is about playfulness, healing and optimism.
I am an artist residing in the northern Illawarra. I have an Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts, majoring in painting, and have been a practicing artist for over twenty-five years. Costuming has been important to me since my adolescence as a highly personal form of creativity which can be enacted every day. To me costuming is both profound and playful, magical and mundane.
I invite you into a space of play and creativity to put together an eclectic piece of jewellery from your own spontaneous design.
Create your own earrings or a necklace or bracelet, anything with beads! I have a huge assortment of second hand beads of all colours, materials, shapes and sizes, including some feature pieces which could be used as pendants. I would also like to encourage you to bring some favourite old broken jewellery or a small child’s toy or shell or anything from home that might be able to be incorporated into your design, to make it truly personal and special.
I will have jewellery making tools to use as well as the beads and fasteners and be ready to assist you to create your own unique piece.
I will have my own jewellery I’ve made on display for ideas and inspiration, It is all about looking for colours and textures that appeal to you. So come have a play collecting beads that appeal to you and holding them with one another to build colour combinations in your palette.
I will be at WorkLife in Picton on Saturday May 10 with my easy and fun Jewellery beading workshop for teens and up. Bring your Teens along for an hour of fun to create the perfect gift for mum, nanna or come along just to create something beautiful. From 1-3pm just in time to enjoy the beautiful Mother's Day market next door on the green at the Celebration Society!!
