Event description

National Science Week virtual incursions with Little Scientists

Simultaneous morning tea — Inspiring children to explore and discover food

“What crunches louder, carrots or cucumber?” “Does the colour of a capsicum or tomato make a difference to its taste?” “How big is the biggest orange?” – Food is so much more than sustenance. We all know of its emotional and cultural significance, but how can it play a part in enhancing children’s hands-on STEM learning?

For National Science Week, we invite parents, early childhood educators, teachers and children to join us for morning tea to explore this very diverse and interesting topic in a playful way. Our presenters will explore the food we eat for morning tea, guide you through fun investigations and share some surprising observations with you.

STEM education is so much more than factual answers to complex questions and Little Scientists will show you how easy and uncomplicated it can be.

The virtual incursion is for educators and families who would like to explore food in a variety of ways with the children in their care. It will be delivered in a child-safe way that allows you to see the presenters, but the presenters won’t be able to see you.

We will show the adults some simple techniques to cultivate children’s skills and excitement for STEM exploration, and this hands-on session will enrich your repertoire of STEM activities.

We sincerely thank Inspiring Australia NSW for awarding us a grant to run these virtual incursions for the community free of charge.

The virtual incursions are scheduled to run for 30 minutes maximum.

Please note: The link to join the webinar will be sent to you the day before the event.

Who is this webinar for? Parents and carers, educators and teachers and anyone who wishes to spark children’s excitement in STEM exploration.

What you will need:

  • Morning tea. We suggest crunchy vegetables and colourful foods like capsicum if possible.
  • Please download a decibel reader app on your phone or tablet to use during the webinar.
  • A laptop or projector to join the webinar.

Please select your incursion date when registering.
