Digging deep to find family and make them matter

Kiera’s first historical biography, The Convict’s Daughter, (Allen & Unwin 2016) was a family history which drew deeply upon the colonial archives to recount the scandalous story of her great, great, great aunt, the daughter of two Irish convicts, who attempted to elope with the wayward second son of the Attorney-General of NSW in 1848. In this talk Kiera shares what she learnt from this process regarding the value of situating individual stories within broader historical contexts to negotiating family diverse perspectives and peccadillos.
