Event description
Solo, Mini Bands, Duo's, Trio's Quad's and Quintets. Entries Close and Payment to be received by 28th September.
Mini Bands Elements :Â
4B SOM ( own selection 4 x 2 part march music) & Medley (own selection 3 - 5 mins) Â
4A MSR (1 each x 4 Parts M,S & R ).Â
Mini Band rules as per Part C, Chapter 1 of the Contest Regulations 2024 (p50)
Duo's, Trio's, Quad's and Quintets Elements :Â
Please note players can only compete in one formation, Groups as per Part D, Chapter 3 of the Contest regulations 2024 (p 58)
(a) Any part of parts of an MSR up to the maximum requirement of Grade 4; or
(b) A selection of marches or march up to the maximum requirement of Contest Regulations; or
(c) A medley of own choice of between 3 and 7 minutes.

Piping :
A Grade
Element 1 – 1 x 2/4 March of 4 or more parts (Submit 3 tunes)
Element 2 – 1 x Strathspey of 4 or more parts into 1 x Reel of 4 or more parts (Submit 3 of each tune)
Element 3 – 1 x Horpipe of 4 parts into 1 x jig of 4 or more parts (Submit 3 of each tune)
B Grade
Element 1 – 1 x 2/4 March of 4 or more parts (Submit 2 tunes)
Element 2 – 1 x Strathspey of 4 or more parts into 1 x Reel of 4 or more parts (Submit 2 of each tune, judge will pick which tunes to be played)
Element 3 – 1 x Hornpipe of 4 or more parts into 1 x jig of 4 or more parts (Submit 2 of each tune, judge will pick which tunes to be played)
C Grade
Element 1 – 1 x 2/4 March of 4 parts (own choice)
Element 2 – 1 x Strathspey of 4 parts into 1 x Reel of 4 parts (own choice)
Element 3 – 1 x jig of 4 parts (own choice)
D Grade
Element 1 – 1 x 2/4 March of 4 parts (own choice)
Element 2 – 1 x Strathspey of 2 parts into 1 x Reel of 2 parts (own choice)
Element 3 - 1 x Slow Air (own choice)
Novice
Element 1 – 2 parts of 2/4 March (own choice)
Element 2 – 2 parts of Slow Air/Slow March (i.e. 2 parts with repeats or 32 bars of music)
Beginner
Please note, competitors in Beginner are to play on a practice chanter. Competitors should have been learning the chanter for one year or less prior to July 2023 and may compete in this section for one solo contest season only.
Element 1: Two parts of own choice March style music.
Piobaireachd :
A grade
Submit 3 full tunes of own choice including crunluath variation and crunluath a’mach where applicable.
B grade
Submit 2 full tunes from set B grade list including crunluath variation and crunluath a’mach where applicable.
C grade
Submit 1 full tune from set list including crunluath variation and crunluath a’mach where applicable.
D grade
Ground and next variation only.
Note: If the tune has a ground followed by thumb variation or ground doubling then this is all that needs to be played. If the tune has ground then Variation 1, then this is all that needs to be played.
Novice

Drumming :
Beginner: Please note, competitors in Beginner are to play on a practice pad and are to be accompanied by a piper on a practice chanter. Competitors should have been learning the snare for one year or less prior to July 2023 and may compete in this section for one solo contest season only.
Element 1: Two parts of own choice March style music. Must begin with introductory rolls.
Novice: Snare (learner), Tenor and Bass (Novice T & B to be run as a trial)
Element 1: Two parts of simple time March.
D Grade: Snare, Tenor and Bass (Elementary)
Element 1: Four parts of Simple, or four parts of Compound march time.
C Grade: Snare, Tenor and Bass (Sub Intermediate)
Element 1: March, Strathspey and Reel, each of two parts only, traditional style.
Element 2: Two or more parts of Hornpipe and Jig.
B Grade: Snare, Tenor and Bass (Intermediate)
Element 1: March, Strathspey and Reel, each of four or more parts, traditional style.
Element 2: Four parts of Hornpipe into four parts of Jig.
A Grade: Snare, Tenor and Bass (Open)
Element 1: March, Strathspey and Reel, each of four or more parts, traditional style.
Element 2: Four parts of Hornpipe into four parts of Jig.

Note:
All competitors, all grades, are to commence their performance with two three paced rolls.
All competitors must be correctly attired in traditional Highland dress. For Beginner competitors, traditional Highland dress is optional.
Backing tracks may be used in the absence of a piper, but they must be good recording with a click track.
