Description

Sculptural Creations in Clay

Classes will run 9.30-1.30pm

Saturday 17th and 24th Oct. Sunday 1st Nov and Sat 14th Nov

Join artist and teacher Monika Scarrabelotti to learn the principals of building a sculpture in clay.  In this workshop you will be guided over five classes on how to construct, model, hollow out and reassemble your work, finishing with a ceramic sculpture ready to be fired in the kiln!

Participants will need to bring in some reference images of the sculpture (or concept) they would like to create, and have an open mind about changes to composition to make the work possible as a purely ceramic sculpture.  Participants are encouraged to work directly from an existing sculpture or favourite artwork for the most optimal learning experience.  Subject matter is open to the choice of the individual and may include: figurative or animal forms, portraiture, abstract or stylised sculptures.  All skill levels are welcome and no prior experience is necessary.

Monika is an experienced sculptor and tutor, and will guide the class with an enthusiastic hands on approach.   Her classes are fun and relaxed whilst remaining a focused and supportive creative environment. Read more about Monika here

Class Structure:

  • Week one - choosing your creation and nutting out composition and plan of attack.

  • Week two - continued modelling, building, refining your sculpture.

  • Week three - if your work is ready we will begin to cut up, hollow out and reassemble your sculpture.

  • Week four - the final day of the course will be used to continue hollowing, plus do any repairs and final touches on your sculptures.

Expect to finish the course with at least one artwork, that can be fired in kiln when dry.

During each lesson we will take a short lunch break, to have a cuppa and a bite to eat.

Clay is included in your fee (There will be an additional firing fee @ $4/kg)
