    Event description

Hearing voices, seeing visions or similar is experienced by up to one in ten people – a phenomenon which soars to about 7 in 10 if you include one-off occurrences where “someone just said my name”

Yet understanding, and responding beneficially to these experiences, remains an under-developed area of frontline training and professional development.

At worst, it is greeted with prejudice, discrimination, stigma and oppressive practices.

FWD Networks is excited to offer a specialised training, at no cost, to Frontline Community Service Workers in the Bundaberg and Hervey Bay regions. It is offered to increase knowledge, professional practice and rights-based approaches when working with voice hearers in the local community.

    Did you know?

    • the majority of people who experience voices and visions are not diagnosed with any illness?

    • experiences are diverse and linked personally to individual context?

    • a person’s relationship with their voices is key to managing fear, overwhelm and to supporting better outcomes?

Join this one-day event, led by David Facer, who has worked intensively in the voice-hearing space to both increase understanding and the use of respectful, rights-based approaches within the support sector.

Among his accomplishments, David launched Hearing Voices Qld in 2014, to assist the development of support groups across the state.

The training will support frontline workers to:

    • Better understand the prevalence and diversity of voices and visions and the vital contextual-relational component that influences experience.

    • The sense-making that can be employed by those experiencing voice and visions and common strategies used to manage experiences in daily life

    • How to better work with voice-hearers and support them to the outcomes they are seeking.

The event will catered for attendees.

To be eligible for inclusion in FWD Network, and a fully subsidised place in this training:

    • You must work in a frontline service delivery role in the Community Sector

    • Must be based in Bundaberg, Childers, Hervey Bay or Howard areas

    • Must commit to letting us know ASAP if you cannot attend so other waiting workers can benefit.

Please contact us if you are unsure.
