Whai Wāhitanga - working collaboratively with hapū and whānau

Over two webinars, Climate Action Aotearoa co-lead Arohanui West (Te Arawa whānui, Ngāti Awa and Ngāti Tūwharetoa) will look at how we can create positive, mana-enhancing collaboration with young people and Māori to fulfil shared aspirations for the future.

Whai wāhitanga is about encouraging authentic participation to answer some important questions. What do we want tomorrow to look like? What do we want life to look like 20 years from now? How do we find pathways together to create the future we want to see? What do we want to do differently to move us forward?

Arohanui will draw on her experience in journalism and communications, and building collaboration around waste minimisation and wetland restoration. Her formal involvement in climate issues began with a role as an environmental intern with Te Arawa Lakes Trust. As Climate Action co-lead, Arohanui is supporting funders who are committed to responsibly investing in a tika (just) transition to a green, low-carbon society. She is an associate with the Centre for Social Impact, and also consults to Para Kore, a Māori not-for-profit which educates and advocates from a Māori worldview for zero carbon, zero waste whānau, hapū, iwi and hapori Māori with a vision of oranga taiao, oranga whānau, oranga marae.
