For those who want to grasp a more in-depth understanding of the woodfiring experience, we are offering an 11 day education opportunity to participate in our March firing at Middle Pocket Pottery.
The experience will include the opportunity to participate in…
Day 1 -2. Making kiln wash, glaze, wadding and cone packs, we will be identifying timber, collecting and gathering wood with practical experience splitting, storing and stacking wood specifically for the Anagama kiln. Discussion on forms and sizes suited for the woodkiln. Discussion on glazing, wadding and pot preparation for firing. This day is flexible according to your availability.Â
Day 3 - 5. The 1st - 3rd of March. Bisqueware delivered by the 1st Mar with guidance on glazing pots and wadding application, preparation of pieces for packing, and preparation of the kiln, then packing the kiln.
Day 6 -9. The 6th - 9th of March The lighting ceremony is followed by an 84 hour firing with at least 3 firing shifts. The roster will be organised in consultation with participants needs, and confirmed closer to the date.
Day 10 - 11. The 15th & 16th of March. Unpacking of the kiln commences at 10am, with debrief and discussion on firing results. Final day is firing assessment with kiln analysis and reset.
Your investment of $875 will ensure an allocation of kiln space being a shelf size of 430 x 600. Brick heights are 75mm, 110mm, 150mm and no higher than the largest brick height of 225mm. Allocation also includes 1 larger piece of 350mm high x 200mm wide max. (Feel free to bring extra pieces just in case we have room)
Remember to wear natural fibres, bring a water bottle, snacks, bring sunglasses or eye protection, and welding gloves if you have them. Coffee & tea provided.
