People's Assembly on Fast Track Bill - Ōtautahi
Event description
Despite massive and growing opposition our Government is keen to ram through the Fast Track Bill to further hurt our climate, endangered species, Te Tiriti rights, and the health of our communities.
Ilam MP Hamish Campbell (National) has a key vote in the Environment Special Committee, which has the power to improve or even stop this legislation. Unfortunately, so far Hamish Campbell has refused to meet with his electorate members to discuss their concerns about the Fast Track Bill. That's why we're bringing the people to Hamish Campbell's office for a People's Assembly.
All people (particularly Ilam residents) are welcome to attend. We will have a kaupapa of welcoming and respecting everyone regardless of their view. The people's assembly process will be started with some expert information about the fast track bill (so it's OK to come if you don't know yet what this is all about) and then facilitated discussions will allow everyone a chance to speak and to take up some key questions for discussion. The Fast Track Bill will effect all people in Aotearoa, so it's crucial that the people are involved.
Check back on this event page on the day - if the weather is terrible we'll have a backup venue. Our assembly will be in front of Hamish Campbell's office: 5/376 Ilam Road. We highly recommend bringing a folding camping chair or a cushion to make yourself comfortable. The assembly process will be facilitated by Climate Liberation Aotearoa, but we encourage and welcome the participation of other groups.
